Forms and Theories of Creative Nonfiction
Warren Wilson College

This introductory course explores the contemporary landscape of creative nonfiction by attending to its history, surveying and interrogating the "craft" of nonfiction, exploring the genre's many forms and focusing on the big questions of creative nonfiction: what is praxis in writing one's own life? How is research creative? What are the ethics of nonfiction?

Online Creative Nonfiction Mentorship
The Adroit Journal

A summer mentorship program for high school writers, the aim of the mentorship program is not formalized instruction, but rather an individualized, flexible correspondence.

The Lyric Essay

This upper-level workshop will pursue the lyric essay. What defines the lyric essay? What are the boundaries of genre? How can nonfiction push the boundaries of other forms? In this course, we will read a wide array of forms such as the hermit crab essay, the prose poem, collage and the braided essay. We will explore critical histories of genre to navigate the lyric essay. You will be encouraged to experiment with these forms of writing, to step out of your comfort zone(s) and to
challenge your own preconceptions of where writing can take you.
